The Misanthrope

by Moliere

directed by Martin Nichols

A new translation by Martin Crimp. Alceste is a playwright who cannot bear the flagrant hypocrisy and mutual flattery which surrounds him in literary London. His savage contempt for all forms of deception and pretence eventually leads him to ruthlessly attack Jennifer, the woman he truly loves. Is his determination to tell the truth at whatever cost more destructive than other people's need to avoid it?
